Beato Home Founders Lisa Casoni and Heather Stobo

Beato Home was launched in 2023 by Lisa Casoni and Heather Stobo, the former owners of the Porch Gallery Ojai. They were inspired to create a reproduction of artist Beatrice “Beato” Wood’s ceramic dinnerware after displaying the original sets as part of an exhibition at Porch Gallery, where they drew numerous inquiries from guests. The fragility of the pieces (made in 1960), and the price ($10,000) made the series unattainable for most of their customer base so Lisa and Heather partnered with the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts to recreate more affordable and accessible pieces.

Wood’s greatest work of art may have been her life. From her ceramics to sculptural works that shared the humor she found in human folly, Wood knew there should be no separation between life and art. Those who were fortunate to be invited to dine at her home recall drinking from her goblets and eating from her tableware while engaging in conversations that ranged from serious world affairs to naughty stories that would leave her giggling like a schoolgirl.

Anais Nin had once written of her friend’s pottery, “Beatrice Wood combines her colors like a painter, makes them vibrate like a musician. They have strength even while iridescent and transparent. They have the rhythm and luster of both jewels and human eyes. Water poured from one of her jars will taste like wine.” Dinnerware by Beato Home is designed for those who believe in elevating entertaining to the level of interactive art and theater. Experiencing life as an art is the ultimate luxury.
